Well the Kindergarten performed splendidly on Tuesday evening for their show Too Much Noise! and that was the last "check mark" for New Heights music shows for this school year. It's been another great year with lots of learning, maturing and growing taking place. I hope this summer brings everyone some relaxation and sun so we can be prepared for the next year again. I will certainly miss this 2nd grade class as they move on to South Point, they will surely do great things in their future!

Kindergarten parents, please notice the links at the right side of the page with lyrics from all the songs for our show. Also notice the parent letter should you have any questions about what time your child's show is happening! We are working hard and have now handed out speaking lines and started the last song of the show. It won't be long before we start putting things together with other classes which is when the magic really happens!

I mentioned that February is a month that flies by but who knew March would be just as crazy! We have finished up the Music Booster Potato Feed which went wonderfully and we are now focused on the Kindergarten program in May. We will also have a performance by the band and choir students from Red Lake Falls grade 4-6 at the end of April. Lots of fun ahead, stay tuned!

February is always such a fast month with conferences, 1st grade program, President's Day and now all our snow days! It is flying and 1st and 2nd graders are already getting ready for their next performance opportunity at the Music Booster Potato Feed! This year's fundraiser will be on Sunday, March 3rd at the Senior High Gymnasium and I am looking for as many 1st and 2nd graders as possible to sing with us. If you are able to attend please fill out the bottom portion of the letter that will soon come home with your child and send it back ASAP. You will then receive a reminder note about specific times for performance (around lunch time) and concert attire (EGF colors and jeans). Check out the links on the right side of the blog for more information about the Music Booster Potato Feed!
What a great job the 1st grade did with their show, it really was a whirlwind but they rose to the occasion. We had a wonderful audience as always and packed our cafeteria for both shows that evening. I always love seeing how many supportive, loving families we have in East Grand Forks. The Kindergarten takes stage next with a show in May. They will soon begin work on their masterpiece and if you have any question please feel free to email or call.

Another snow day down and here we go with the show! Thank you so much to teachers who moved around their schedules this morning to help me get in another rehearsal with the first graders, what a great staff we have here at New Heights! Our afternoon show went very well, great singing, lots of movment, can't wait to see everyone tonight.

BRRR! Two snow days down and only a couple weeks to go until our 1st grade program on Tuesday, February 12th. The kids have been working hard to get things ready with speaking parts, instruments, songs and movement. Ask your 1st grader what their job is for our show.
Second grade is busy learning about percussion instruments, George Frideric Handel, beats in sets of 3 and much more. Supper quiz question for your 2nd grader tonight: What is an ostinato? A repeated pattern in music
Kindergarten is busy singing and moving. A lot of my focus until this point of the year is getting them singing as much as possible and moving as directed, specifically to mirror me. This preparation can help transition young children who may be used to doing "their own thing" to begin our program work when they will be required to move as a whole group with designated movements. This work will soon begin although the show will remain a secret for a little while longer, stay tuned. :)
Be on the lookout for information about our annual Music Booster Potato Feed in March. It's a great time for families with good food and entertainment of the best kind, our own kids.
